Touchpoint presenta las obras de cuatro artistas multidisciplinarios: Heather Hanft (Rochester, MN), Alejandra Ortiz De Zevallos (Lima, Perú), Clancy Philbrick (Filadelfia, PA) y Elie Porter Trubert (Lebanon Township, NJ). Sus prácticas incorporan el tejido, el caminar/deambular, la creación de objetos, el trabajo con sombras, el arte comunitario, los viajes en el tiempo, la enseñanza y la sanación. Las obras presentadas en TOUCHPOINT abarcan escultura, sonido, instalación, pedagogía y poesía, invitando al público a experimentar el arte de formas reflexivas, lúdicas, colaborativas, generosas e integradas. A través de metodologías innovadoras y perspectivas diversas, los artistas cuestionan los límites convencionales y redefinen cómo el arte, tanto en su creación como en su apreciación, puede convertirse en un punto de contacto para orientarse en un mundo en transformación.
Estos artistas representan la penúltima cohorte de la concentración en Confluence MFA en la UNM, un programa de estudios de baja residencia, basado en el campo, en artes interdisciplinarias y cultura regenerativa. Dirigido por Carol Padberg y Mary Mattingly, el programa ha fomentado un enfoque único hacia la creación artística, combinando saberes situados de artesanos y practicantes en Nuevo México, Nueva York, Connecticut, Oaxaca y Ciudad de México.
TOUCHPOINT features the works of four multidisciplinary artists: Heather Hanft (Rochester, MN), Alejandra Ortiz De Zevallos (Lima, Peru), Clancy Philbrick (Philadelphia, PA), and Elie Porter Trubert (Lebanon Township, NJ). Their practices incorporate weaving, walking/wandering, object making, shadow work, community engaged arts, time travel, teaching, and healing. The works presented in TOUCHPOINT span sculpture, sound, installation, pedagogy, and poetry, inviting viewers to experience art in thoughtful, playful, collaborative, generous, and embedded ways. Through their innovative methodologies and diverse perspectives, the artists challenge conventional boundaries and redefine how art, both in its making and in its viewing, can provide a touchpoint for orienting oneself in a changing world.
These artists represent the penultimate cohort of Confluence MFA concentration at UNM, a low-residency, field-based program of study in interdisciplinary arts and regenerative culture. Led by Carol Padberg and Mary Mattingly, the program has fostered a unique approach to artistic creation, blending place-based knowledge from artisans and practitioners in New Mexico, New York, Connecticut, Oaxaca, and Mexico City.
